Howard Lederer grew up in a family of five in which he loved participating in different card games at a young age. He found himself becoming very aggressive in these card games while competing against his dad. After finishing Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to place higher education on hold for a little bit and headed to New York City to play some serious chess. While competing in chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s first two years were tough as he would play countless hours and do not win a majority of the time. He made some extra cash by being an runner for the poker players. He believed he might better his game by adjusting his life away from poker. He brought about an attempt to get more rest and focus more on the game.
The definite improvement in his abilities began when he started gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the greatest players would regularly challenge each other. Howard was able to access several of the best minds in chess. With their assistance, Howard Lederer would sharpen his logical thinking techniques. Howard used these strategic ideas in the game of No-Limit Texas Holdem.
Howard Lederer also assisted his sibling Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie Duke was an excellent student of poker as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the proper choice. Howard Lederer told Annie to head out to Las Vegas and play in the WSOP tournaments. Annie is one of the strongest female players the poker arena today. Howard headed to Las Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and participated in money games for the next decade. When the WPT grew in popularity, he decided to compete in more tournaments.
