Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is often times seen as one of the most difficult but popular poker variations. Omaha Hi-Lo starts exactly like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are dealt to every player. A round of wagering ensues in which players can wager, check, or drop out. 3 cards are given out, this is known as the flop. One more round of betting happens. After all the gamblers have in turn called or folded, another card is flipped on the turn. an additional sequence of betting happens at which point the river card is flipped. Unlike Texas Holdem, in which the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player has to use exactly 3 cards on the board, and exactly 2 cards from their hand. No more, no less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot could be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is just what it sounds like. It’s the strongest hand out of everyone’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the identical approach in almost every poker game.
The low hand is more complicated, but certainly free’s up the play. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. A low hand is the weakest hand that might be put together, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The low hand wins half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there is no lower hand available, the higher hand takes the entire pot.
