Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender on the globe by many of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover anything he possibly could about poker. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative feedback from other people kill his ambition of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He started playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated many of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his success. Phil admits to making blunders in each session of poker and always aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
