Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup anything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the adverse comments from others destroy his goal of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

Phil began playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning period and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes errors in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Even though Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
