Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only participant to achieve final game in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a large pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest gamblers anywhere in the world. While wagering on net poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. Gus frequently competes in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen generally buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all in. I accept that Gus is an excellent poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless he is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy in.

Buying in for the min takes almost all of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amt.. I think tv can skew our perception of the real world at times. The best players in the world may be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be found betting on online poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in high stakes omaha hi-low and hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his abilities in money rounds?
