Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor in the world by many of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn whatever he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the adverse comments from other people annihilate his ambition of being one of the best poker players in the world.

Phil began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed a number of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and an undying love for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and always strives to improve.

Although Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
