No-Limit Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor in the world by many of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover every little thing he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the detrimental feedback from others annihilate his ambition of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
Phil started competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated many of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and a continuing love for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making blunders in each session of poker and always strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
