No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender in the world by many of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative feedback from others destroy his goal of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.
He began playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated many of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable love for poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is quite abashed about his success. He knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and always strives to get better.
Although Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a regular basis.
