Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only player to make it to the last poker table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He won a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest bettors anywhere in the world. While wagering on online poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus regularly plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of $40, 000. Gus generally buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I accept that Gus is a great poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is broke, he has little or no reason to settle at the game with the min buy in.

Playing for the minimum takes most of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the full amount. I believe tv can skew our view of the real world at times. The best players anywhere in the world may be players you have will not have heard of before. Gus can be seen betting on online poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in big stakes Omaha and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his abilities in money rounds?
