No-Limit Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by most of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover everything he could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative feedback from other people destroy his dream of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.
He began playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and an eternal love for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and always strives to improve.
Although Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
