NL Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover everything he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the detrimental feedback from others kill his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
He started competing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated many of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing passion for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every day and is very humble about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
